DELTA STATE GOVT TO BAN OKADA IN WARRI, ASABA, OTHER TOWNS

SLUG: Delta State to ban okada

Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has revealed plans by the state government to ban commercial motorcycles, popularly called okada, in major cities of the state.

Uduaghan, who made the revelation this morning, said his administration had already commenced acquisition of tricycles and buses to mitigate the effect of the ban.

However, he said the state government would not be stampeded into taking action on the matter, stressing that measures and facilities have to be put in place to ensure that it doesn't lead to problem for commuters.

To this end, he said bus stops are already being built on major routes in Warri, Ughelli and Asaba, the state capital.

Meanwhile, Uduaghan lamented the attitude of members of the public to government facilities in the warning that his government is determined to deal with misbehavior and tampering with government properties.

He decried attitude of persons who destroy public facilities, including street lights and kerbs on the roads.

He said such behaviors would now attract stiff penalties from relevant agencies, who will receive guidelines on how to deal with them.
